SUZUSAN- Japanese Textile and Clothing Design from Arimatsu, Japan
An Ancient Craft
Shibori design has been practised for generations in Japan. Hiroyuki, the eldest son of the Murase family and designer and founder of Suzusan has incorporated the traditional skills of his family into a contemporary context and works with the finest textiles. This initiative helped to revive the shibori handicraft which had experienced a decade long downturn.
I have a complete crush on this scarf. Made from handloomed linen yarn. The design and dye technique which is employed in this scarf is known as 'Tesuji shibori'
The very nature of this textile is that it is soft and responsive and everchanging to your mood and temperature.
The inspiration for the Suzusan current collection 'cycle' was the lens through which creative director Hiroyuki observed the subtle changes on his daily commute to work of the seasonal changes. In the light, the plants, the sounds and the colours of the natural world. Captured here in the 'Boushi Shibori' technique in his original plants design.
