TORO ONE PIECE
This garment is the hero of my Winter 2022 capsule collection. A simple one piece to be worn as a dress or a tunic within a layering wardrobe look. Hand stitched artisanal finishes are subtle and beautiful and elevate this garment. The neck and front facings are lined with unique vintage shibori silks and hand stitched in the sashiko technique from the visible side in a variegated cotton thread that transitions a range of red tones. A length of cotton sari cord that I bought a skein of in Kyoto is used to gather the front hem to create a gentle 'toro' (Japanese for Lantern) silhouette.
In Japan the term 'one piece' is loosely adapted to describe the garment which can be worn as a long top, tunic or dress. I love it and have included it in my own clothing story.
